Events for April 2012

One would expect April to be a quiet month for space scientists, engineers and advocates looking to keep up on activities, but here's another monthly listing of over 80 conferences, educational events and public meetings, which will go a long way toward proving that assumption wrong. They're sorted by date of occurrence:

  • The 12th British Gravity Meeting (BritGrav), covering all areas of classical and quantum gravity including astrophysics, cosmology and experiments, will be held in Southampton, UK from April 3rd - 4th.

  • The 2nd Titan Through Time Workshop, focused on the formation, evolution and final fate of the largest moon of Saturn, will be held  in Greenbelt, MD from April 3rd - 5th.

  • The Yuri's Night: World Space Party, an international celebration to commemorate space exploration and the first human to launch into space, will be celebrated in various locations around the world on April 12th.
  • The 2012 Space Access Society (SAS) Space Access '12 Conference, the annual get-together for people seriously interested in the technology, business, and politics of radically cheaper space transportation, will be held in Phoenix, AZ from April 12th - 14th.

  • Space Camp 2012, a Canadian celebration organized in honour of the annual Yuri's Night series of worldwide space parties, will be held in Toronto, ON on April 14th.
  • The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) 2012 Fusion Forum, a US space event highlighting international thinking geared towards university students and young professionals, will take place in Colorado Springs, CO from April 15th - 16th.

  • The 28th Annual National Space Symposium (NSS), organized by the Space Foundation and billed as the “the premier gathering of the global space community and a must attend for anyone in the space business,” will be held in Colorado Springs, CO from April 16th - 19th.
  • The 2012 Astrobiology Science Conference (AbSciCon 2012), focused on exploring life in the past, present, near and far, will be held in Atlanta, GA from April 16th - 20th.
  • ISR 2012 will be held in London, UK from April 18th - 19th.

  • The 2012 International Space Apps Challenge, a two day technology development event during which citizens from around the world will work together to solve current challenges relevant to space exploration and social needs, will take place at a variety of locations around the world from April 21st - 22nd.
  • The 12th Hadron Physics Conference, intended for graduate students, postdocs and researchers in hadronic physics, high energy physics, astrophysics and effective field theories, will be held in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil from April 22nd - 27th.
  • The "Mars 500" International Symposium, focused on "the peculiarities and prospects of interplanetary flights, space physiology and medicine during flights to Mars," will be held in Moscow, Russia from April 23rd - 25th.

As always, if your event is not on this list and you'd like it to be, please send an e-mail to mr.chuck.black@gmail.com. Our next listing of conferences, covering the May 2012 period, should be ready for publication around the middle of April 2012.
