Events for August 2012

August is formally a holiday season for the international space science, technology, engineering and mathematics community which normally takes the month off. However, there is still over 65 conferences, educational events and public meetings occurring this month.

We track them all and each is sorted by date of occurrence:

• The American Institute of Aeronautics and Aerospace (AIAA) will hold a one day Engineers as Educators Workshop in Atlanta, GA on August 1st. 

• A NASA Social Media Event for Mars Science Laboratory Landing will be held in Pasadena, CA on August 3rd.

• The 15th Annual International Mars Society Convention will be held in Pasadena, CA from August 3rd - 5th.

• The 124th Annual Meeting of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, focused on "communicating science," will be in Tucson, AZ from August 4th - 8th.

• The 6th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August 4th - 14th.

• The 12th International Symposium on Nuclei in the Cosmos will be held in Cairns, Australia from August 5th - 10th.

• The 34th session of the International Geological Congress will be held in Brisbane, Australia from August 5th - 10th. 

• The 13th Annual Summer School on Adaptive Optics will be held in Santa Cruz, CA from August 5th - 10th.

• The Boston University (BU) Summer School on Plasma Processes in Space Physics will be held in Boston, MA from August 5th - 11th.

• A conference focused on 100 Years of Cosmic Rays and the Anniversary of their Discovery by V. F. Hess, will be held in Berlin, Germany from August 6th - 8th.

• A workshop focused on Practical Imaging with Optical Interferometers will be held in Ann Arbor, MI from August 6th - 9th.

• The International Workshop on Mars and the Moon: Changing Perspectives and New Questions will be held in Beijing, China from August 6th - 10th.

• The 10th Symposium on the Urban Environment and the 8th International Conference on Urban Climate (ICUC8) will be held in Dublin, Ireland from August 6th - 10th.

• The 5th Meeting on Cosmic Dust, organized by the Center for Planetary Science,will be held in Kobe, Japan from August 6th - 10th.

• The 29th Annual Mt. Kobau Star Party will be held in Kelowna, BC from August 11th - 19th.

• The 2nd International Summer School on Quantum Gravity, organized by the Beijing Normal University, will be held in Beijing, China from August 12th - 15th.

• The 2012 International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) Optical Engineering and Applications Conference will be held in San Diego, CA from August 12th - 16th. 

• The 75th Annual Meeting of the Meteoritical Society, an international organisation dedicated to research and education on meteorites and other extraterrestrial materials, will be held in Cairns, Australia from August 12th - 17th. 

• A one-day Army Commercial SATCOM Users’ Workshop will be held in Baltimore, MD on August 13th.

• The 2012 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Guidance, Navigation, and Control Conference and Co-located Conferences, including the AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control Conference, the AIAA Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, the AIAA Modeling and Simulation Technologies Conference, and the AIAA/ American Astronomical Society (AAS) Astrodynamics Specialist Conference will be held in Minneapolis, MN from August 13th - 16th.

• The 2012 Small Satellite Conference , organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and Utah State University will be held in Logan, UT from August 13th - 16th.

• The Applied Technology Institute (ATI) course on Fundamentals of Passive and Active Sonar will be held in Newport, RI from August 13th - 16th. 

• The 2012 Space & Missile Defense Conference & Exhibition will take place in Huntsville, Alabama from August 13th - 16th.

• The 4th Solar Information Processing Workshop (SIPWork VI) will be held in Bozeman, MT from August 13th - 16th.

• The 2012 MESA Summer School will be held in Santa Barbara, CA from August 13th - 17th.

• The 18th European White Dwarf Workshop will be held in Krakow, Poland from August 13th - 17th.

• A conference on the Cosmic Kaleidoscope: Pulsars and Their Nebulae, Supernova Remnants and More, focused on the work of Okkie de Jager, will be held in Kruger National Park in South Africa from August 13th - 17th.

• The 4th La Plata International School on Astronomy and Geophysics (LAPIS 2012), focused on "millimeter/submillimeter astronomy with LLAMA" will be held in La Plata, Argentina from August 13th - 17th.

• The 2012 Composite Conference, bringing together the international composite community to discuss composite performance, durability, and safety, will be held in Las Cruces, NM from August 13th - 17th.

• The 2012 American Meteorological Society (AMA) Summer Community Meeting will be held in Norman, OK from August 13th – 17th.

• The 2012 Joint Assembly of the the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) will be held in Sentosa Island, Singapore from August 13th - 17th.

• The 4th meeting of the Physics of the Cosmos Program Analysis Group (PhysPAG) will be held in Washington, DC from August 14th - 16th. 

• The Applied Technology Institute (ATI) course on Technical CONOPS and Concepts will be held in Columbia, MD from August 14th - 16th.  

• The TechNet Land Forces East conference will be in Baltimore, MD from August 14th - 16th.

• The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 2012 International Technology Week will be in Tianjin, China from August 14th - 17th.

• The Hinode-6 Meeting, focused on the satellite launched in 2006 to investigate the magnetic activity of the Sun, will be held in St. Andrews, United Kingdom from August 14th - 17th.

• The Applied Technology Institute (ATI) course on the Fundamentals of Random Vibration & Shock Testing will be held in Santa Barbara, CA from August 15th - 17th. 

• A workshop on the Frontiers of Star Formation, organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) will be held in Noordwijk, The Netherlands from August 15th - 17th.

• A symposium on the Physics Of Reality - Space, Time, Matter, Cosmos, will be held in London, United Kingdom from August 15th - 18th.

• The lecture on Voyager's Interstellar Mission, part of the 2012 von Kármán Lecture Series, will be held in Pasadena, CA on August 16th.

• The Julian StarFest 2012, organized by the San Diego Astronomy Association (SDAA) and the town of Julian will be held in Julian, CA from August 16th - 19th. 

• The North York Astronomical Association StarFest, Canada's largest annual observing conference and star party, will be held in Ayton, ON, Canada from August 16th - 19th.

• The Manitoulin Star Party will be held on Manitoulin Island, ON from August 17th - 20th.

• The 2012 Almost Heaven Star Party (AHSP), organized by the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club, will be held in Spruce Knob, WV from August 17th - 21st

• The Applied Technology Institute (ATI) Agile Project Management Certification Workshop will be held in Dallas, TX from August 20th - 22nd.

• The Conference focused on Hawaiian Volcanoes: From Source to Surface will be held in Waikoloa, HI from August 20th - 24th. 

• The 15th Conference on Mountain Meteorology, organized by the American Meteorological Society (AMS), will be held in Steamboat Springs, CO from August 20th - 24th.

• The 20th International Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics, organized by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), will be held in Fukuoka, Japan from August 20th - 25th. 

• The 28th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) will be held in Beijing, China from August 20th - 31st.

• The International Conference on Earth Science & Climate Change, organized by the OMICS Publishing Group, will be held in Northbrook, IL from August 21st - 22nd.

• The Fermi Solar Data Analysis Workshop will be held in Greenbelt, MD from August 22nd - 23rd.

• The 40th conference on Broadcast Meteorology, organized by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) will be held in Boston, MA from August 22nd - 24th.

• A seminar on From Climate to Space: Hot Topics for the Station Scientist will be held in Brookline, MA on August 24th.

• The 3rd Conference on Terrestrial Mars Analogues, sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA),  the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS), the Ibn Battuta Centre and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) will be held in Marrakech, Morocco from August 25th - 27th.

• The 22nd Congress of the International Society for Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing will be held in Melbourne, Australia from August 25th - September 1st.

• The 4th International Workshop on Analogue and Mixed Signal Integrated Circuits for Space Applications (AMICSA) will be held in Noordwijk, the Netherlands from August 26th - 28th.

• The Applied Technology Institute (ATI) course on Risk and Opportunity Management will be held in Chantilly, VA from August 27th - 29th.

• A multidisciplinary workshop on Double-Diffusive Systems will be held in Santa Cruz, CA from August 27th - 29th.

• The 21st Conference on Characterization and Radiometric Calibration for Remote Sensing (CALCON), organized by the Space Dynamics Laboratory of the Utah State University Research Foundation (USURF), will be held in Logan, UT from August 27th - 30th. 

• A conference on Communicating Climate Science, part of the Chapman series of conferences and events organized by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), will be held in Thira, Santorini, Greece from August 27th - 31st.

• The 20th European Signal Processing Conference (Eusipco 2012) will be held in Bucharest, Romania from August 27th - 31st.

• The  8th International Conference on Geomorphology will be held in Paris, France from August 27th - 31st.

• The 2012 Shale Gas Impact on Vehicle Development Symposium, organized in cooperation with Hart Energy and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), will be held in Pittsburgh, PA on August 28th.

• A workshop on Theoretical and Computational Astrochemistry will be held in Pisa, Italy from August 20th - September 1st.
